Being a dentist is a big job. Making sure that people have a clean and healthy smile is very important for the health and well being of all of their patients.
Why is Dental Health Important?
Taking good care of your mouth is an essential part of being a healthy individual. In the olden days, people were not health conscious as we are today and they did not have as good of hygiene. Making sure that you have a clean mouth will prevent you from having bad breath which is always a plus, but most of all it will keep you from developing gum disease as well as tooth decay. It will also keep you from potentially losing your teeth as you age and get older.
The mouth is the window to the rest of your body and should be taken care of to the most of your ability. It is a helpful vantage point for detecting the early signs of diseases as well as viruses. Keeping a clean mouth will help prevent the spread of bacteria from person to person as well as also being a great diagnostic tool.
What is a Dental Assistants Job?
A dental assistant’s job is very important in the dentistry office. They will generally be tasked with many different jobs ranging from taking x-rays and performing the regular cleanings on patients. They will also be in charge of record keeping, making sure that everyone is getting the service they need as well as making sure that when it is time for patients to come in for appointments they will be notified. Their more specific duties can vary depending on which state they are working in and also which dental office they are working at.
Dental assistants also serve as the first face you will see when getting worked on, outside of the people you may talk to at the front desk. They will begin your treatment and make sure that you feel as comfortable as possible. They will ask you questions about your medical history and may possibly take your blood pressure and pulse if necessary. They will be the ones who will start your cleanings and if you need and fillings or fluoride treatment they will also be the ones who do that for you as well. In certain situations they will also make molds of the mouth if the appointment calls for it. One great thing about being a dental assistant in this day and age is the fact that it is currently one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States. According to the US Bureau of Labor Standards, the amount of dental assistant jobs is expected to grow by 18% by 2024.
What Does a Dentist Do?
A dentist is the one in charge at their particular office. The majority of people will only ever see them for a short amount of time though. So what exactly are they doing all day while they are in the office?
A dentist’s job involves a variety of different things. These being jobs like removing tooth decay and repairing fractured teeth. They will be the people who will fill cavities, apply sealants or whitening agents to your teeth. If the procedure requires an anesthetic, they will be the ones who will apply that to the patient. They are able to prescribe medications to the patients if needed. They will be able to diagnose any problems you may have with your teeth, gums, jaw as well as the nearby areas all through the use of x-rays. If you are an older person who has been losing teeth over time, the dentist will be the person who will do the measurements of your mouth so you can have dentures fitted to you. They will also act as a tether for you. They will give you tips and tricks (such as flossing, the use of fluoride, etc.) on how to keep your mouth as clean and healthy as possible.
The majority of dentists are general practitioners and will only be doing procedures such as the ones listed above, but other dentists can also specialize in 1-9 other areas, these include:

How Does Sedation Dentistry Work and What to Expect?
Not everyone are the biggest fans of going to the dentist, children and adults both included. Sedation dentistry is an excellent way to get through your dentistry procedure quickly and without pain or the anxiety of being there. One thing to note when having sedation dentistry done is that you aren’t going “under”. You won’t be knocked out when you are doing this. You will have a mild sedation that is done through a few different methods such as Nitrous Oxide or “Laughing Gas”, Oral Sedation, and also IV Sedation. During the procedure you will be functional and able to talk to your dentist, but afterward you may feel groggy and have little recollection of the appointment. It is always a good idea to have someone there with you so you can get a ride home. It is a very bad idea to drive after being sedated.
At Comfort Care Dental you will be cared for and the staff and dentist will make sure that your time there will be as least stressful as possible, you will be in good hands with them. They are highly experienced in sedation dentistry. You won’t feel a thing and the next thing you know you will be on your way home with a clean and healthy mouth. Just make sure you brought someone to drive you home.
