Your family is getting larger and more independent every year, but that may not necessarily be the case for the elderly in your family. As time progresses it can get increasingly difficult for them to support themselves! But, clearly making the decision to move into an assisted living facility is not one you or they want to make without being educated first. All too often we hear the nightmare stories of horrible nurses and management. Making it difficult for us to trust anyone but ourselves with the care of our loved ones. With a little research and guidance however, you can find a place where they will not only be safer, but often happier than if they stayed home!
The Gables Family

Know Who’s On Your Side
It’s important to note that you have some heavy hitters on your side. As long as you pick the right place you won’t need their services, but the local Ombudsman is there for you anytime you may need.
If you’re anything like I am, it’s likely when you read that word you imagine a large, round, yet surprisingly short worker in a chocolate factory. As cool as it would be to have a gang of these following you around, this is actually not what an Ombudsman is at all. An Ombudsman is a public official who advocates for the opinions of the public in matters regarding assisted living facilities. They perform regular inspections of all local facilities to ensure that all needs are being met for each individual. It’s important to know where to contact the one for your district. In case of any complaint you may have about the care of your loved one, reach out to you local representative! In Idaho your Ombudsman can be contacted at aging.idaho.gov after having selected the zone of residence. You are never alone in your concern!
